Guide for funeral homes

What family control means in an online memorial

A funeral home can make Premium access available without owning the memorial, handling the family’s content or becoming responsible for day-to-day page management.

Online memorial privacy choices controlled by the family account

The family owns the account and the memorial

The invitation pays for Premium access. It does not make the funeral home the memorial owner. The family accepts through its own Held in Memory account and controls the memorial from there.

Family members decide what to write, which photographs to add, when the memorial is ready and who may visit it. They can continue editing later without asking the funeral home.

The funeral home sees invitation status, not memorial content

Partner users can see the contact and memorial name they entered and whether the invitation is pending, claimed, expired or cancelled. That is enough to manage the service without opening the family’s private space.

  • No family password or sign-in access
  • No access to draft or published stories and photographs
  • No access to visitor tributes or moderation controls
  • No ability to publish, unpublish or delete the family’s memorial

Privacy stays with the family

The family chooses public, link-only or private visitor access. A public memorial can be discovered and shared more broadly; a link-only memorial is intended for people given its address; a private memorial is available only through the owner’s account.

Premium visitor tributes remain held for family approval before they appear. The funeral home is not the tribute moderator.

Recognition is separate from control

A small, optional acknowledgement may explain which funeral home made Premium access available. The family can show or hide it. Read how funeral-home acknowledgements work.

That acknowledgement does not mean the partner wrote, approved or endorses the family’s content, and it does not create access to memorial or visitor information.

If the partnership ends

Closing or suspending a partner account does not itself remove or downgrade a memorial a family has already claimed. It remains Premium and under the family’s control.

The same service availability provisions apply to all memorials. One-time payment describes billing, not guaranteed perpetual or uninterrupted hosting. See the Terms of Use.

Common questions

Can a funeral home update a spelling mistake on the memorial?

No. The family account owner controls memorial content and can make the correction. The funeral home can only correct invitation details while an invitation remains pending.

Can the funeral home see whether the memorial is public?

No. The partner dashboard tracks the invitation, not the family’s chosen privacy setting or memorial content.

Can the family use an existing Held in Memory account?

Yes. The family member can sign in and accept the invitation with an existing account.

Does the funeral home become responsible for visitor content?

The family moderates visitor tributes before publication. Held in Memory’s terms and moderation processes still apply, but the partner does not receive tribute controls.
